An interview with Conor MacEvilly
We speak to Conor MacEvilly, owner of MySeattleHomeSearch.com, about his use of the Hike platform and experience with SEO.
Why did you want to do your own SEO?
“Based on what self-proclaimed SEO gurus wanted to charge me and the extended time (and cash) commitment they wanted from me, I figured I might as well learn, at least the basics, for myself. And yes, I’m realistic and I realize real results take time. I wanted SEO-independence rather than being completely reliant on someone else who may or may not what know what they are talking about. However, there are some good, straight-talking SEO guys and gals out there like Andy and Kieran at Hike.”
What SEO experience did you have before using Hike?
“Mainly self-thought by reading books and watching YouTube videos. I still had to filter through all the conflicting opinions. It helped my site rankings improve but not to where I wanted it to be.”
How do you use Hike?
“I use Hike for keyword research and tracking my ranking. The Actions section helps me correct on-page SEO errors that can affect my organic rankings. I use Hike and other platforms for blog topic ideas and for looking for backlink opportunities.”
Would you recommend Hike to other small businesses?
“Absolutely. If your website does not have the SEO basics down properly, then your site is not going to rank and be found. If you are planning to focus on organic rankings for your site, the Hike platform is helpful at ensuring your on-page SEO is good and notifying you of corrections you need to make to your site with easy-to-follow instructions. It’s DIY SEO.”
Do you have any SEO tips for other real estate agents?
“There are thousands upon thousands of real estate sites on the web and if you want to be seen you will need to decide if you want to either pay to be seen via paid ads and/or be found via organic search results. Otherwise, your site will be the proverbial tree falling in the forest. If you want your site to rank organically, keep it simple, do the basics well and your site will see the benefits, but you must be patient and you must put in the effort. Sorry, there is no magic SEO silver bullet, but there are plenty of people out there who are more than happy to sell you one.”
